About us
A unique facility in Hungary: a realistic clinical environment for the development of healthcare technologies. A modern operating theatre and intensive care and IT infrastructure for testing and validating medical devices and preparing them for market launch.

The MedTech Innovation and Education Centre of Óbuda University is a facility unique in Hungary that provides a realistic clinical environment for the development of healthcare technologies. With a modern operating theatre and intensive care and IT infrastructure, the centre supports the testing and validation of medical devices and the preparation for their market launch.
The centre offers close cooperation between the university knowledge base, industry players and the healthcare sector in order to refine prototypes. The laboratory not only supports research and development, but also plays a key role in training the professionals of the future and in meeting international quality standards. Its goal is to operate an innovation ecosystem that is competitive internationally and that effectively connects scientific results with clinical practice.
Units and capabilities
The laboratory infrastructure models a complete modern hospital environment in which genuine clinical modelling can take place – workflow-based clinical testing of prototypes, device validation in a real simulation environment, interoperability studies and the delivery of training programmes.

OR · 01
Operating theatre
A fully equipped surgical environment, suitable for validating surgical instruments, imaging systems, medical robotics solutions and surgical workflows.

ICU · 02
Intensive care unit
Used to model the care of critically ill patients; validation of life support devices, monitoring systems and intensive care technologies.

PIC · 03
Paediatric intensive care
Focused on neonatal and infant care development, providing prototype evaluation and validation in a specialised clinical environment.

HIS · 04
Health informatics
An integrated institutional health information system with NEAK, EESZT, HL7 and DICOM interfaces and real clinical data management.
Special capabilities
Integrated HIS system
One of the most significant professional strengths of the centre is its integrated, real institutional health information system, built on a live system used in several Hungarian healthcare institutions. It models full institutional data management, patient pathway management and clinical administration.
Interfaces and connection points
- NEAK interface – financing and reporting processes
- EESZT connection – the national digital health infrastructure
- HL7-based data connections
- DICOM image processing interfaces
- Clinical data and patient pathway modelling environment
AI capabilities
Thanks to the profile of the University, there is exceptional access to AI systems. The MedTech lab makes it possible to build de-identified datasets from which purpose-built models can be developed – both to extend the functionality of individual devices and to support clinical decision making.
Typical application areas
- Health data processing systems
- AI-based assistant systems
- AI-based extension of medical software
- Patient monitoring with AI support
- LLM integration into clinical processes
Education
Training the professionals of the future: students and practitioners can work with real technologies in real systems.
Forms of education
- Specialised postgraduate courses
- Industry training
- Device usage and validation workshops
- Multidisciplinary project work
- Continuing education for clinical staff
Leadership and professional background
The professional standard of the MedTech Innovation and Education Centre is guaranteed by its institutional and innovation management background, clinical engineers, health informatics leads, quality management and conformity assessment experts, MDR / IVDR certification specialists and research and development project managers.
The laboratory supports the development work of industry players with a well-prepared team. Through the internal and external specialists of the university, a unique background competence is available, together with capacity that grows continuously with each new project.

A word from the head of the centre
At the MedTech Research Centre, we are passionate about professionalism. It is the standard we set for ourselves in every project, every lecture and every line of code. Our leadership team brings together deep academic expertise, hands-on engineering experience and a clear understanding of what healthcare and industry need from technology. We believe that excellent results begin with people who take their responsibility seriously and who never stop asking how things can be done better.
Whether we are teaching the next generation of engineers, conducting research, developing a new solution or turning an idea into innovation, one principle guides us: the experience of our partners, students and clients comes first. We listen carefully, communicate openly and keep our promises, because we know that good collaboration is built on reliability and respect. Quality is not an afterthought for us. It is built into how we plan, how we work and how we deliver, from the first conversation to the final result.
Why entrust your research and development challenge to us? Because we combine scientific rigor with practical thinking. We understand the regulatory, clinical and technological realities of medical technology, and we know how to turn complex requirements into solutions that work in practice. Our team connects university research, advanced AI and engineering know-how with an international network of partners, so you gain more than a project team: you gain a committed partner who shares your goals and takes ownership of the outcome. With us, your project is in careful, capable and dedicated hands.
Our aim is simple: to make these principles visible in everything we do. Professionalism, customer focus and uncompromising quality are not slogans at the MedTech Centre. They are the way we work every day.
